L’œuvre de David Spriggs met en perspective les principales figures d’autorité qui régissent notre interprétation de la couleur verte. Outre sa connotation écologique, le vert est devenu photogénique. Depuis que l’on utilise de larges écrans verts (green screen) pour réaliser les effets spéciaux au cinéma, cette couleur est devenue un symbole contemporain de la substitution. En mettant de l’avant ces différentes connotations, l’installation révèle cette érosion de la frontière entre réel et virtuel qu’induit la couleur. David Spriggs vit et travaille à Montréal. David Spriggs’ installation is an in-depth investigation of all things related to the colour green - its historical and technical significance, symbolic potential and atmospheric resonance. The result is an immersive environment where green is both colour and concept. The work’s figurative references to art history, pornography and the military offer a critical view of shifting power structures seen in a hue that mimics the “enhanced reality” of night-vision optics. David Spriggs: Archaeology of Space
Charles Stanievech, Gordon Hatt, Mark Clintberg & Marie-Eve BeaupréUsing layered groups of transparent drawings suspended in museum-style cases, Spriggs creates what he calls Spatial Image Sculpture. These optical illusions of deep space, reminiscent of holograms, read as parallel spatial theatre. This deconstruction of form highlights the mechanics of vision at a time when cinema and digital imaging have come to offer alternative visual landscapes. Published with Rodman Hall Arts Centre.
