spacerPick up! is Schuppli's latest inquiry into electronic communication, in particular the telephone and its natural adjunct the answering machine. Her interactive installation is based on two propositions: that the telephone has been ignored in discussions around information technology and that new media continues to rely on older cultural forms for communication. Two essays explore the public and archival nature of her work. Accompanied by an audio CD.

Phony is an interactive CD-ROM which explores the history and culture of the telephone in order to reflect upon contemporary communications technologies and is an expansion of Schuppi's multi-sited public art project. Media theorist Takahashi further develops the work and ideas through her audio analysis.
