The Gershon Iskowitz Foundation

The Gershon Iskowitz Prize 1986 - 2006

Introduction by Jeanette Hlinka

The Gerson Iskowitz Prize has been awarded to exceptional Canadian artists for over twenty years. Profusely illustrated with some of the country's most celebrated contemporary art, this new publication features original essays on each of the recipients by a wide range of curators, gallery directors and critics. Among the artists discussed are General Idea, Gathie Falk, Arnaud Maggs, Betty Goodwin, Stan Douglas, Geoffrey James, Rodney Graham, and Janet Card iff and George Bures Miller. Taken as a whole the writings document the evolution of contemporary art in Canada.

Contributors: Stéphane Auquin, Jessica Bradley, Nathalie de Blois, Glen Cumming, Peggy Gale, Mayo Graham, Bruce Grenville, Ihor Holubizky, Marc Mayer, David Moos, Roald Nasgaard, Diana Nemiroff, Francine Périnet, Margaret Priest, Christina Ritchie, Kitty Scott, Matthew Teitelbaum, and Loretta Yarlow.

Born in Poland in 1921, Gershon Iskowitz was a survivor and an artist who immigrated to Canada in 1949. His works are part of numerous collections, including the National Gallery of Canada and the Hirschrorn Museum and Sculpture Garden.
